In this SAFe Lean Portfolio Management course, you will gain the practical tools and techniques necessary to implement the Lean Portfolio Management functions of Strategy and Investment Funding, Agile Portfolio Operations, and Lean Governance.

    • Duration: 90 minutes
    • Number of Questions: 45
    • Passing Score: 77%
    • Delivery: Web-based, closed book, no outside assistance, timed
    • Access: Practice and certification exams are available in your Scaled Agile Community portal under the course you’re attending.
    • Cost: Initial cost is included in the course registration fee if taken within 30 days of course completion.
    • Retake Fee: $50; $250 for SPCs
    • Retake Policy: First retake may be taken immediately after the first failed attempt. Second retake may be taken 10 days after the first retake. Third retake may be taken 30 days after the second retake. All subsequent retakes require a 30-day wait.

Module 1: Introducing Lean Portfolio Management

In this module, you will learn how to:  

  • Apply the Lean-Agile Mindset and SAFe Principles to portfolio management 
  • Realize the benefits of organizing your portfolio around value 
  • Identify the Development Value Streams within a portfolio 

Module 2: Establishing Portfolio Strategy and Vision

In this module, you will learn how to:

  • Connect the portfolio to the Enterprise with Strategic Themes
  • Describe Strategic Themes with objectives and key results (OKRs)
  • Maintain the Portfolio Vision
  • Define the Value Streams and portfolio domain via the portfolio canvas
  • Understand the portfolio’s investment mix by horizon
  • Identify opportunities for the portfolio’s future state with SWOT
  • Express the future state as a Vision
  • Develop the portfolio Roadmap
  • Forecast portfolio Epics for roadmapping
  • Identify market rhythms and milestones
  • Identify valuable release windows using market rhythms

Module 3: Realizing Portfolio Vision through Epics

In this module, you will learn how to:

  • Define portfolio Epics
  • Achieve the future state of the portfolio with Epics

  • Estimate Epic costs
  • Implement Epics and achieve the Vision using the SAFe Lean Startup Cycle

Module 4: Establishing Investment Funding

In this module, you will learn how to:

  • Establish Lean Budget Guardrails
  • Guide investments by horizons
  • Apply capacity allocation to optimize value and Solution integrity
  • Establish portfolio Epic thresholds
  • Use Participatory Budgeting in SAFe
  • Establish the total portfolio budget
  • Establish Value Stream budgets with participatory budgeting

Module 5: Managing Portfolio Flow

In this module, you will learn how to:

  • Establish flow with the Portfolio Kanban
  • Sequence Epics for implementation using WSJF
  • Sequence Epics for optimal economics
  • Calculate WSJF to sequence Epics
  • Manage portfolio flow

Module 6: Applying Agile Portfolio Operations

In this module, you will learn how to:

  • Coordinate Value Streams to create portfolio-level opportunities
  • Deploy and release portfolio work
  • Support program execution and operational excellence
  • Measure and grow to improve LPM competency

Module 7: Applying Lean Governance

In this module, you will learn how to:

  • Measure LPM performance
